The growl, the croon, the bedroom whisper, the haunting sob. The jiggling knee, the sleepy smile, the whirling arms. It was only in the final months of his life, Hendry maintains, that the King piled on the excess weight that made him a cruel punch line after his death in 1977 at the age of 42. “People always make that mistake with Elvis,” he chides. He needs to work on his hair.”Īnd maybe he’s, uh, a little too thin? At this point Hendry bristles slightly - in defence of his friend, in defence of their hero. That’s a huge part of it.”Īnything lacking? Well, the look isn’t perfect, Hendry says. “He’s got a really good voice,” Hendry says. Only his mane of black hair and spectacular mutton chops give him away. Hendry is at the far back of the hotel ballroom where all the off-duty Elvises hang out, incognito in jeans, a dark shirt, Clark Kent glasses. Tim Hendry respects the Elvis he’s watching - a long-time friend and sometimes competitor from the North American Elvis impersonator circuit. He leans down to give a little sugar to a lady in the front row. “Hello, my name is, uhhh, Engelbert Humperdinck,” he jokes huskily. He moves well, and he stays in character between songs. He’s rocking out with a full band to ‘See See Rider’ as a Jumpsuit Elvis, aka 1970s Elvis, the most popular kind of Elvis at this or any Elvis Festival. OCEAN CITY (Maryland): The Elvis on stage right now is a pretty good Elvis.

We want our template to have a few rows for each working time. To assign the day of the week to the dates we have, do the following:Īpply the following function to the B3 cell: =TEXT(B2, "DDDD")ĭrag the cell towards the right to H3 – you’ll get the days of the week for each consequent date. Next, select the C2 cell and apply the following formula: =B2+1ĭrag the cell towards the right to H2 – the cells will be filled with consequent dates. Now, when you double-click on the B2 cell, a calendar will drop down for you to pick the date as the starting day of the week. Then pick Date in the Criteria field and click on Save. For this, right-click on the cell and select Data Validation. Apply Data Validation to the cell with the starting date – this is B2 on our template. Hence, let’s make the template time-flexible. Others may have a different starting day of the week. Most businesses start their work week on Mondays. If you wish, you can explore a ready-to-use weekly schedule template. For that reason, let’s make a custom reusable schedule template. If you need to input several tasks for a particular time, you’ll need to manually insert as many rows as needed. For example, it only provides one row for each time. The default Google Sheets weekly schedule template is good, but it can and should be improved. If more than two other people in the world with your team name, you’ve failed. Fantasy football (FF) is a popular game in the NFL community, with players acting as General Managers and supervising the real NFL players status in their virtual teams. When Slate counted up the top 30 names last year, eight of those 30 were names such as “Dallas Cowboys” or “Seattle Seahawks.” Dude (and dudettes), it’d be less embarrassing to just leave the generic “Team 7.” At least there’s some irony in that. The Chebyshev family allows some variation in the passband and stopband in trade for a steeper rolloff.īessel filters have a constant time delay through the filter in the passband. For example, the Butterworth family has a very flat response but a gradual roll-off between the passband and the stop band. Next, we must select from the many types of LC filter circuits called families - each with a slightly different type of response. ELSIE gives us two choices for high-pass filters: capacitive input and inductive input.Ī capacitor in series with the filter at the input (capacitive input) blocks any DC and low frequency signals, so select that topology. Since we’re designing a broadcast-reject filter for 160 meter reception, we need a high-pass response. This is the filter’s topology describing the general arrangement of the filter components. Now it’s time to tell ELSIE what kind of circuit you want. Using ELSIEīegin by downloading the current version of ELSIE (2.82 as of mid-June 2018) from Tonne Software ( Follow the install wizard’s instructions, then run ELSIE. By stepping through a sample design, you’ll get a feel for how to turn specifications. In this article, I’ll illustrate the time-tested and free student version of ELSIE: Design software for passive filters made from inductors (L) and capacitors (C) thus, the name, L-C. You have to provide all the component values before determining how the circuit will work.įilter Design and Analysis /en/Fkeisan.htm (active, passive) Remember that simulator programs such as LTSpice ( en./wiki/LTspice) require that you come up with a design first. An advantage of proprietary design tools, generally, is that they take into account more component characteristics and can help avoid trouble in high-performance designs. Proprietary websites may only use components that are produced by that company, but if your filter doesn’t have extreme requirements, you can often switch to equivalent parts by any company. The supported filter designs can be active (op-amp based), passive (RC, RL, RLC), or both. Some are stand-alone software you install on your PC and others run on a website (usually a company’s website). There are quite a few software packages and services to choose from. Luckily for hams and other experimenters, there are plenty of free or low-cost programs to try (see the sidebar). There are several filter design software packages ranging from simple calculators to sophisticated CAD programs. Sounds like a job for some filter design software, doesn’t it? Practically, you’ll need to build the filter with standard-value components as well, and that will affect filter performance too. There are tables and equations, but they are tedious to work with. So far, so good, but a filter that doesn’t attenuate signals very much above 1.8 MHz while attenuating them significantly in the adjacent broadcast band is not a simple thing to design. The usual solution is to install a high-pass broadcast-reject filter at the receiver input, attenuating the unwanted AM signals below 1.6 MHz while passing the desired 160 meter signals with little attenuation. Antennas for those frequencies pick up a lot of AM band RF, overloading the input circuits and creating distortion or false signals inside the receiver. Hams often experience fundamental overload on the 160 meter band (1.8–2.0 MHz) which is adjacent to the AM broadcast (BC) band (550 kHz–1.7 MHz). The AM signal is completely legal but just too strong, disrupting the function of the receiver or overriding the desired programming. The receiver might be a wireless telephone, a scanner, or even a TV or radio receiver. It occurs when a receiving device is functioning entirely properly but unable to reject a strong signal. If you’ve ever lived close to an AM broadcast station, you probably experienced the phenomenon known as fundamental overload. » Skip to the Extras Once you start, it’s hard to stop! Remember to first teach and model these hand signals for the class. For example, you could tell the class that holding up one finger means you agree with what someone else said. Instead of having to raise their hand and talk in front of the whole class, hand signals allow children to communicate without words. Allow children to use hand signals as a way to participate. Before Read Aloud begins, tell the class that as you read, you will ask them all questions and you want them all to respond together, just like a chorus. Examples of low-pressure opportunities to participate include: For example, doing something along with the whole class creates less pressure than doing something on your own in front of everyone. It is especially helpful to provide low-pressure opportunities to join in. To encourage children to participate, provide several structured opportunities to join in during large-group activities. Structured opportunities for low-pressure participation. Let them know that part of their job as a leader in the classroom is to encourage their peers to participate and make sure others have a chance to speak. For instance, pair less confident children with children who are nurturing or are leaders in the classroom, but make sure more confident children do not dominate activities. Remember to be thoughtful about how you group children. Providing opportunities to participate in groups of smaller sizes allows children to build confidence before testing them out with larger groups. You can help children learn how to be confident in group activities by giving them opportunities to work in pairs, small groups, and larger groups. As group size grows, so do the number of personalities, potential interactions, and contributions.Allowing children to participate in large groups at their own pace and acknowledging when they join in, helps them build confidence. For example, if there is an activity where children are supposed to clap to the beat of a song and a child who normally does not participate is clapping, let them know you saw their efforts after the activity is over.
